The April 28th event, sponsored by the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, will be held in the Jordan Athletic Center at the Belmont Hill School. The day will start with the Braggin' Rights Dual Meet shortly after Noon.
There will several youth and collegiate exhibition matches to complement the prep vs. public high school all-star dual meet. After the wrestling, we will walk down the hall to the Wadsworth Room for the Spring Awards Reception at 3 PM. A social hour with sandwiches and refreshments will be followed by the presentation of several special awards.
Olympian and world champion Elena Pirozhkova will be presented with the "Bay State Pride" Award. Elena has agreed to share her story that 'hard work pays off'. She will be joined at the awards podium by Danielle Coughlin, the first female high school state champion in Massachusetts history, who will receive the "Wrestler's Heart " Award.
We will also honor three outstanding individuals with coach-of-the-year awards: Rob Buyea (Northfield Mount Hermon), Darby McLaughlin (Springfield Central HS), and Ed Whitley (Springfield Youth Wrestling). The back-to-back national championships garnered by Ken Anderson (Billerica HS and Wartburg College) will also be recognized.
Finally, the day will be capped off by the awarding of five Peckham scholarship awards and the Massachusetts Schultz Award. These awards will be presented to the outstanding Massachusetts high school wrestlers for the past season. It promises to be a great day of wrestling and recognition... please join us !
